Note: A score of 60% or above in English in the X & XII standard as regular full time student from Maharashtra, West Bengal, Chennai, CBSE and ICSE Boards is acceptable as evidence the student would have a level of English equivalent to Level 5.5 band in IELTS.
Foundation Studies Entry Qualifications
In order to apply for the Foundation Studies, student must:
- Be 16 years of age or over.
- Have completed secondary school study, equivalent to New Zealand Sixth Form (Year 12) OR
- Must have a secondary school completion qualification from the country of origin, AND
- Have an IELTS score 5.5 or above; or a paper-based TOEFL score of 525; or a computer-based TOEFL score of 197 or above. The students must have a score of at least 5 in each of the four bands.
Note: Students taking admission to study any of the Science papers should have completed four years of high school study in the Science area. For getting admission to study either of the Mathematics paper, the students should have completed four years of high school study in Mathematics area.
New Zealand degree programs
A ‘degree’ is an advanced tertiary qualification. It is awarded after the satisfactory completion of an advanced study program.
Degree programs are normally pegged at level 7. They generally require basic research and communication skills. Certain specific programs might also require the successful completion of prerequisite subjects/diploma qualifications, before considering getting admission into a degree program.
Usually, the universities and tertiary providers, in New Zealand, offer degree programs for 3 years, but some courses such as Law and Medicine may extend further than that. There is also an honours year for students willing to reach the postgraduate study as a research student.
The degree programs can range from one year Certificate programmes, to 2 year Diplomas and 3 or 4 year degrees. Generally, the degrees are of 3 years duration.
The following minimum requirements are to be met for getting admission into a degree program:
- An overall average of 75% with a minimum of 60% in English in All-India Senior School Certificate or the Higher Secondary School Certificate, or Indian School Certificate (ISC) with a 50% grade average or Higher School Certificate (HSC) with a 65% average, OR passed Tenth Grade in Kerala.
- 1 year of successful study towards an undergraduate degree at a recognised Indian university
- Completion of 12 years of elementary and secondary education, which implies qualifying in class 12th examination or junior college as applicable.
- The ‘acceptable degrees include: Indian School Certificate, Intermediate Certificate, Higher School Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate, All India Senior School Certificate.
Generally the New Zealand universities require a minimum of 75% aggregate marks and a minimum of 60% in English. In case, any student fails to meet the criteria, the student can be required to complete one year of education in any university in India or do a foundation course in some university in New Zealand. The Graduate Diploma is meant for degree graduates willing to broaden their knowledge and skills in their chosen area of specialisation or a new subject at the undergraduate level.
The degree graduates can take admission in the graduate diplomas. Even those with equivalent professional experience can take admission. Level 6 & 7 qualifications can be considered as suitable for entry into graduate diploma programs.
Bachelor with Honours
For enrolling into this program, the students must be graduates having a recognised Bachelors degree with a B/B+ grade average. The students are also required having a major in the relevant subject area with a B/B+ grade average.
Postgraduate Certificates & Diplomas
Postgraduate Certificate in Management Studies
For getting admission in this program, the student must already have a degree-level tertiary qualification. But, even the applicants with extensive relevant experience will be considered. Applicants must also be employed in a position relevant to the field of study, for the duration of this Certificate.
For Postgraduate Diploma
The students are required being a graduate of a recognised Bachelors degree with a B/B+ grade average. They should also have a major in the relevant subject area with a B/B+ grade average.
For Postgraduate Diploma in Innovation and Technology
The applicants will generally be required having a minimum of 3 years work experience along with an undergraduate degree in a relevant (technology or science) field. These are executive programmes, so the requirement for formal degree qualifications can be waived for students having a significant relevant practical experience. Applicants need to be employed in an organisation with significant research, innovation, technology or manufacturing activities, supporting involvement in the program.
Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies
Admission in this program requires tertiary or relevant professional qualification in addition to 3 years of relevant work experience. Sometimes, the requirements for formal degree qualifications can be waived where relevant practical experience is there.
Postgraduate Diploma in Personal Financial Planning
For enrolling in this program, applicants may need to have a previous degree and/or experience in financial markets. If an applicant has no tertiary qualification, student’s industry experience will be taken into account. Applicants need to be employed by a Bank or an approved financial institution.
The student needs to be a graduate of a recognised Bachelors degree (of 3-4 years) with advanced study, and have a B/B+ in the subject in which he/she intends to major for the Masters degree. Certain Schools of Studies/Faculty require an Honours degree with a B/B+ grade average to be eligible to apply for a Masters degree. In case, a student fails to meet the above requirement, a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor with Honours or Postgraduate Diploma in the appropriate major subject will be required.
Master of Management Studies Accelerated Programme
The entry to this program is on a case-by-case basis. For gaining entry, the student must be a graduate of a recognised Bachelors degree with an A- (75%) or better average overall, and in the major area he/she plans to study. In case a student narrowly misses the entry criteria, he/she will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. The students are required to maintain a 65% average to remain in the accelerated program.
Master of Innovation and Technology
Applicants are required having a minimum of 5 years work experience and an undergraduate degree in a relevant (technology or science) field. This being an executive program, the requirement for formal degree qualifications can be waived in cases where significant relevant practical experience is there. Applicants need to be employed in an organisation with significant research, innovation, technology or manufacturing activities, supporting involvement in the program.
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Admission in MBA program requires a Bachelors degree and at least two to five years of relevant post qualification work experience, as well as supportive referee’s reports.
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
Admission to MPhil requires bachelors with Honours or Masters Degree, with at least Second Class Honours (First Division) or Distinction. Entrance is at the discretion of the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
Doctor of Education (DEd)
Admission to doctorate programs requires bachelors with Honours or Masters Degree, with at least Second Class Honours (First Division) or Distinction. Entrance is at the discretion of the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Admission to PhD in New Zealand requires bachelors with Honours or Masters Degree, with at least Second Class Honours (First Division) or Distinction. Entrance lies at the discretion of the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
